The Quickest Way I Know To Get Your Site Indexed
Jul 17th
We all want free traffic. There are a lot of things that go into getting a lot of that free traffic. There are entire courses covering the subject. What I want to go over is the quickest way I’ve found to get the search engines to index your site. Not how to get loads of traffic. I’m still trying to figure that one out.
When a new site is created, the first step is to get your site indexed as quickly as possible. What I discovered is that getting links from other sites that are indexed gets your new sites indexed. At least that was my experience.
Last November, I picked up Info Product Killer. It laid out a way of building sites that promote products from Amazon by getting free traffic. I created 8 new sites. What I did next was to link to them from 2 of my existing blogs.
In less than a week, I was indexed by Google, followed by MSN and Ask a few days later. The traffic was pretty low at first, but it was all free.
Since then, without any more linking and just adding a page every month or so, my traffic has been steadily increasing.
I’ve read information from several search engine pros that you should never submit your sites to the search engines, and to just let them find you.
Linking from my blogs did the trick. The nice thing about blogs - and I know this from looking at my web stats – is that the bots are coming around at least once a week to index the blog. Since the only thing I did to point to my new sites was to link from 2 of my blogs, I can be pretty sure that these links were the reason why my new sites were indexed and started to get traffic.
This is something that is free for you to do. If you don’t have existing blogs or web sites that you can link from, you can put up a blog on your site.
A few other ideas are to get a free blog a blogger.com or wordpress.com. You can sign up for a free Squidoo account and create a page there as well. And of course you can write and submit articles. Write some content and include a link back to your new sites.
Then keep an eye on your web stats inside your hosting account to see if and when the bots show up. Then see if you start to get some traffic.
This isn’t about getting a ton of traffic immediately. It’s about the first step in getting free traffic, which is getting your site indexed.
