If you’re an affiliate marketer, your main task is to get people to the product owner’s sales page. Everything you do in your promotions should get someone interested in the product or service. Enough to make them interested enough to click on your link.

There are a lot of merchants that do a good job of providing excellent sales tools. You can get pre-written email messages, articles, and ads, all ready to use. While that is a good starting point, you can and should come up with your own material, and then test to see which makes more sales.

I’ve seen the importance of writing your own promotions first hand. It gets really tiring to get several email messages promoting the same product and seeing the exact same copy each time. When someone takes the time to write something unique, I get interested. It’s even better if the writer explains why they are recommending the product, and why I should take a look at it.

Writing original copy is easier said than done, but what simplifies the process is to go to the sales page. Take the time to read the sales letter from start to finish. Take notes on the strongest parts of the sales letter, and highlight the key benefits of owning the product.

The way I look at it is that I’m not trying to sell the product. That is the job of the sales page. My job is to get people interested in the product. I want to compel them to click on my link to get more information, so I can get a commission.

I don’t want to tell them anything that they are going to read on the sales page. My intention is to offer reasons why this product is worth taking a look at. After I read the sales letter and take a few notes, I try to offer an overview of the product, while at the same time citing the main benefits of purchasing the product.

There’s no hard and fast rule on the right way to pre-sell a product or service. At the end of the day, what matters are results. By reading the sales letter and coming up with your own pre-sell message, you may be able to improve your results. I just wanted to share a strategy that I have been working on for my own business. I’ll report how effective it is in the future.
