Getting a large list of subscribers seems to be the advice of most of the Internet “Gurus” out there. It makes sense. Once you have a subscriber you can contact them over and over again. If your content is interesting and useful, you’ll keep the subscriber.

A list sure beats the heck out of constantly generating traffic to your site(s). But having a list may not be for everyone.

Setting up the system to get subscribers takes a bit of time. You have to get an autoresponder account or mailing list software. Set up a subscription form and decide where to put it. Drive traffic to your subscription form. Provide content regularly to keep your subscribers happy.

But it is a bit of a commitment when you have to come up with a message on a regular basis. Some people don’t have the time or the interest to do this.

If you’re making a profit from using pay per click advertising, or you are only interested in making a few extra dollars a month, a list may not be worth it to you. Same thing is true if you are building adsense sites.

No one should start a list if they aren’t ready to start creating content. If you only send out a message every few weeks, your subscriber may forget that they subscribed. If you only send out ads, it may make your subscribers mad, and they’ll leave your list.

The bottom line is this – Only you can decide what type of marketing you want to do. You are the one who has to decide where your time is best spent. If your business model is working without a list, good for you.
